Prosthetic Care
The State guarantees provision of high-quality modern prosthetic devices and other rehabilitation products. One of the priorities of the Ministry of Social Policy is to improve mechanisms for free provision of such products.
Key achievements in this area:
- providing rehabilitation products before the disability is assigned;
- expanding the list of enhanced functionality products based on latest technologies that are provided to the military free of charge;
- providing highly-functional prosthetic devices to the military in certain cases without primary prosthetic care;
- regulating the matter of early replacement of rehabilitation products that have been damaged or destroyed as a result of hostilities;
- simplifying the mechanism for submitting applications for rehabilitation products, and expanding the possibility of applying via the social worker in the healthcare institution;
- regulating the matter of changing the enterprise that has terminated or has not resumed its operations for the period of state of emergency or martial law;
- simplifying the mechanism for submitting applications to be provided with rehabilitation products, and expanding the possibility of applying via the social worker in the healthcare institution;
- increasing maximum prices of rehabilitation products, and making prices for children’s prosthetic devices the same as adult ones to ensure parts of the best quality.
The purpose of prosthetic care and provision of other rehabilitation products is to recover lost functions, to adapt to new conditions and to resume active social life.
Ukraine offers the free qualified service of prosthetic and orthotic highly-functional products with quality parts, including the ones manufactured abroad.
The prosthetic devices received as charity and, for instance, manufactured abroad are repaired and maintained in Ukraine for free during the entire period of their operation.
Where possible, choose the prosthetic enterprise closer to where you live: the continuous communication between a patient and a prosthetic care specialist is important for further maintenance and repairs of the product.
Prosthetic care is the individual process affected by lots of factors, such as the amputation level, comorbidities or complications, the person’s mobility level, and his or her readiness for prosthetic care. The type of a prosthetic devices is selected individually depending on the patient’s health condition and functional abilities.
In addition to prosthetic devices, a person might need additional rehabilitation products, such as a wheelchair, walking sticks or crutches. The State offers a wide range of rehabilitation and assistive products for accommodation, a bathroom, a toilet as well as lifts etc.
State Free Prosthetic Care Programme
To get a prosthetic device or another rehabilitation product free of charge, you can file an online application via the Social Portal of the MSP or the Electronic Account of a Person with a Disability.
A written application can be filed regardless of your place of residence by contacting one of the closest institutions in the community:
- the administrative service centre (ASC);
- the structural subdivision for social protection of the population (SPA);
- the territorial division of the Fund for Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities (FSPPD).
An application can be filed via the employee of the territorial division of the FSPPD or the social worker in the institution where you are provided medical or rehabilitation assistance.
Moreover, you can purchase a necessary rehabilitation product at your own expense and get a compensation within the maximum prices set for each product. The maximum prices for the military are increased three times (except for enhanced functionality products).
